Outrun Ullage (Humanity 5)



Outrun Ullage is about the stress of trying to make it through Engineering school when you know you're slowly failing. Sure, you can succeed--thrive even--if you keep going forever. But you don't have forever, do you?

Players command a crew of 4 characters and their trusty AI as they explore wrecked spaceships, breaking down old machines for spare parts while avoiding rampant security drones.

20 May 2024 Resumed my refactor of the character system. It's been VERY broken ever since I posted the intro demo on Itch. Once that's fixed, I hope to get back to prototyping out more gameplay features until I can post a full vertical slice with the mechanics simplified even further.
27 May 2024 Working on a bunch of background fixes to the Intro demo that were caused by my character refactor. Biggest thing to note is the character now spawns a corpse that contains the items you had when you die. I'll do the same for enemy characters soon. More cleanup (dead, hard to edit code, etc.) is needed before I can really continue prototyping.
15 June 2024 I'm declaring my repairs of the character controls code finished for now. Now back to prototyping more gameplay features Like I wanted to last year--HEY LOOK, Helldivers II seems like a fun game!

Synopsis

You and your crew wanted to loot a junkyard, but some debris struck your ship and left you stranded on the way in. Now, you're in charge of the 4 crew'men and their starship. Crawl through the dead halls of a thousand years of industry, using the combined skills of your crew to salvage as much loot as you can while something unknown tightens its grip around you all.

The good news? Humanity has been launching junk on a one-way trip at this system for centuries. Who knows what you'll find once you go looking?

Tutorial/Teaser 2024 (Q4) VFX, getting the complexity right. Massively overscoped my original idea and it caused the teaser demo that I delivered to be severely under-polished.
Vertical Slice 2025 Characters, content scope
Playtests 2026 Will be organized via Discord video calls or recorded video so I can watch without interrupting. Reach out to me if you are interested in participating once the earlier milestones are completed.
Full release 2027 Will initially be published on Itch IO just like the teaser and any other demo releases I put out.

Short version: A dungeon-crawling Looter where your only 4 lives are unique crew members. The crew entered a junkyard of a solar system looking for salvage they could sell, but when a disaster leaves the ship drifting and half broken, they find they must keep going just to stay alive.
